Are you ready for God?

Witnessing and Serving

2nd MILE GIVING

2nd mile giving is money given above and beyond the pledge to Millian.  It is used for mission outreach.  It supports outreach at the local, community, regional, national or global level.  It is collected quarterly (there is a special envelope in with your pledge envelopes or you can place it in the offering plate or send to the office - marked 2nd mile giving).  The funds collected are distributed by the Witnessing and Serving team with the approval of the Administrative Board.

For the second quarter this year the money was distributed as follows:

  • $400 to Gude Men's Shelter
  • $400 to Children's Inn
  • $400 to the Teen Cafe
  • $550 for Camp Joy scholarships
  • $250 to Dwelling Place, Inc - provides transitional housing and support services to families experiencing homelessness, helping them achieve and maintain self-sufficiency

For the 3rd quarter, Witnessing and Serving is recommending that the funds be distributed as follows:

  • $500 to Linkages to Learning for support of their work in Aspen Hill  schools
  • $500 to Shepherd's Table
  • $500 to Helping Hands Shelter
  • $500 to Montgomery Avenue Women's Shelter

If you have any suggestions as to where you would like to see money used in the future, please call Marguerite Eimer at 301-871-7636 or leave your note in an envelope in the collection plate.

Thank you for your generous gifts to 2nd Mile Giving to help those in need.

Do You Really Want to Save That?
Do you have gently used household items just taking up space in your home? Would you be willing to give them away to our neighbors who could use them? Community Partners of Aspen Hill and Wheaton, along with Linkages to Learning, are publishing a list (similar to a Craig’s list) on Millian’s website of give-away items, jobs needed – such as lawn mowing, leaf raking, painting, and anything else you think might be of interest. Send this information to Aileen Worrell at aeworrell@verizon.net or call 301-460-4862 and she will put it on the website. The case managers from Linkages to Learning at our local schools will then look at the list and see if there are any matches with their clients’ needs. This is another small way for Millian to provide a welcoming, friendly face to the community.

Books for the Food Pantry
Each month many children accompany their parents to the food pantry. We would like to be able to give them a book to take home. We hope to give them a Bible story book but any books for children would be welcome. Donations of new or gently used books can be dropped off with your food donations in the narthex or the church office. Thank you for your support of the food pantry and for this new mission to our neighborhood children.
